About Us
Hi, I’m Dirk, founder of RockEast Music School.
When I was 12 years old I had a music teacher at school who encouraged me to audition as the drummer for the school rock band. I’d never played drums before…ever! I auditioned and somehow got the job. I loved playing drums straight away.
I had found ‘my thing’!
This then led me on a journey that would see me play thousands of shows all over the UK, play with hundreds of fantastic musicians and make friends for life along the way.
Here at Rockeast Music School we aim to encourage our students in the same way that my school music teacher did all those years ago.
Just have a go, enjoy it and see what happens.
Meet The Team
Dirk Forsdyke – Drums & Band
Founder, Director and Head Tutor Dirk Forsdyke is a multi-instrumentalist with a strong focus on drums.
He has been teaching music full time since 2004, working with hundreds (probably thousands??) of students both privately and in many local schools and youth music projects.
Jim Heywood – Drums
After starting drums at the age of 13, Jim went on to study music at University.
He then began his career as a performer and educator, gigging and teaching across both the UK and Sweden.
Jim teaches in local schools as well as RockEast.
Jack Grange – Drums
After studying with Dirk and completing his Grade 8, Jack went on to attain a 1st Class Degree in Music Performance at The Academy of Contemporary Music.
This provided him with many opportunities to play with a variety of musicians and bands, both on stage and in the studio including the likes of Johnny Hates Jazz.
Edith Stewart – Piano
Edith is a music teacher and performer, teaching Piano, Violin and singing across several schools in Suffolk. Having discovered her passion for music at 3 years old, as well as teaching, she also works as a Musical Director for theatre productions and performing as a pit musician for shows.
